The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading national body funding game-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the Australian public.

NBCF’s mission is simple…to stop deaths from breast cancer.
Since inception is 1994, the five year survival rate for breast cancer has increased from 76% to 92%, proof that our strategy is working. However, with more than 20,000 Australians diagnosed with breast cancer each year and over 3,200 deaths annually, there is still much work to be done.

THE ROLE
An opportunity now exists for a visionary and transformational Director, People and Culture (DPC) to take NBCF on a trajectory in our ambition to be one of the best workplaces in Australia.

Reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for supporting the strategic success of NBCF through the design, development, delivery, and implementation of NBCF’s People and Culture strategy.

You will provide both strategic and operational expertise to the CEO, Senior Leadership team, and employees on all people related matters including performance and talent management, organisational design and development, engagement and retention, reward and recognition, workforce reporting and change management.

You will oversee and manage end-to-end employee life-cycle processes and ensure than our 55 employees are supported and well equipped to be the best they can be and deliver outstanding service to our stakeholders and supporters. You will actively promote a culture of empowerment and accountability where everyone’s contributions are valued, whilst ensuring our systems, processes, and policies are consistent with our values and deliver on our strategic objectives.

As a key member of the Senior Leadership team, you will be expected to contribute to, and play a leadership role in, the design and delivery of NBCF’s broader organisational strategic and operational agenda.

NBCF is located in a superb new office in the heart of the Sydney CBD. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
STRATEGY
Responsible for the strategic leadership of people and culture with the aim of creating and maintaining an inspiring, rewarding, and purposeful workplace that enables people to operate at their best.

  • Co-design and development of a contemporary, future-focused, and innovative people and culture strategy
  • Implementation of the people and culture strategy, translating the strategy vision into achievable and measurable goals
  • Within the overall strategic framework, development of people-related frameworks, including:
    • o Remuneration, reward, and recognition
    • o Performance management and measurement
    • o Learning and development
    • o Succession Planning
  • With the CEO and Senior Leadership team (SLT), monitor and drive organisational commitment to vision, values, and high performance
  • Ongoing external monitoring to ensure NBCF is engaged with, and aware of relevant industry news, information, relevant regulatory changes, and latest initiatives
  • Identification, planning, and delivery of long term strategic opportunities and risks to strengthen performance and culture
  • Ensure that the appropriate tools, techniques, and programs are in place to monitor people and culture performance and trends, including in relation to turnover, engagement, and productivity.
  • Assist managers in strategic and operational initiatives by contributing people and culture expertise and knowledge
  • Development and implementation of initiatives to raise the profile of NBCF, particularly as a place to work.

  
OPERATIONS
Responsibility and oversight of all people-relates business, operational, and administrative functions.

  • Ensure that NBCF has in place policies, guidelines, and processes to enable the organisation to remain compliant with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that NBCF’s policies, procedures, and processes align with, support, and promote, the organisation’s culture and values
  • Identification, management, and reporting of people-related risks across the organisation
  • Identification of operational people-related key metrics and supporting ongoing measurement and reporting of performance against key metrics
  • Preparation and presentation of people-related reports for relevant audiences including employees, executive, and board
  • Planning and delivery of operational people-related projects as required
  • Responsibility and oversight of all key operational functions and processes of recruitment, retention, and departures, including staff contract and HR systems.

  
STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
Constructive and purposeful engagement with all key internal and external stakeholders

  • Engage constructively with the board, executive, managers, and employees, to ensure the people and culture strategy is successfully delivered
  • Establish and maintain mutually beneficial partnerships with key external service providers including consultants and recruiters
  • Represent NBCF at key industry events via presentations and networking

  
  
SENIOR LEADERSHIP
To play an active and constructive role as a member of the NBCF Senior Leadership Team

  • Attendance at all SLT related meetings and events
  • Participation in SLT related activities and decisions
  • SLT representation as required
  • As a leader of NBCF, modelling behaviours aligned to the values and culture of the organisation at all times.

SELECTION CRITERIA
ESSENTIAL

  • Degree level qualification and/or equivalent experience in a relevant role
  • Has, or willing to gain, a thorough understanding of the latest thinking/best practice in people and culture practices and initiatives
  • Has a passion for, and a successful track record in, working with people to achieve great outcomes
  • Strong business/commercial acumen
  • Advanced strategic planning and management skills
  • Proven organisational, project management, change management, and operational capabilities
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Advanced negotiation, influencing, and persuasion skills
  • High level stakeholder engagement skills – both internal and external
  • Experience in liaising with external professional service providers.
  • Can demonstrate alignment with the values of the Foundation and help to build a positive and engaging work environment and culture.

  
DESIRABLE

  • Experience designing and delivering organisational development initiatives and strategies
  • First class presentation and facilitation skills
  • Advanced IT skills especially in Microsoft Office and Teams

This role can be 4 or 5 days a week.
